XHUNT user guide

Plan the morning before it starts.

Use XHUNT to plan a hunt, save what you see, check conditions, and keep the next move clear.

Start here

Three taps to get useful.

1. Sign in

Create an account or sign in. Keep the same account for your saved hunts and notes.

2. Choose access

Basic covers hunt planning. Pro unlocks the paid tools shown with a lock, including live weather maps and AI help.

3. Start with the Dashboard

Check the weather, open a saved hunt, or tap Plan Hunt.

01 / Dashboard

Your morning view.

  1. Read the top tiles. Check Now, Wind, Sunrise, Moon, Sunset, and Next Hunt.
  2. Allow location. When asked, allow location so XHUNT can place you on the map and load local conditions. If tiles show —, turn on phone location, reconnect, and try again.
  3. Tap the weather area. Open the full forecast and timeline.
  4. Check the outlook. Wildlife Outlook shows species activity across the week.
  5. Switch Hunts and Scouts. Tap a card to reopen its report.
  6. Open the menu. Find My Woods, Food Plots, Tools, Settings, and your account.
Tip: If you are heading out soon, check Wind, Next Hunt, and your route before leaving service.

02 / Plan Hunt

Make a plan you can follow.

  1. Tap Plan Hunt.
  2. Name the hunt and choose the date.
  3. Choose one or more species.
  4. Tap the map to set the spot, or use your location.
  5. Draw the approach or exit trail if it helps.
  6. Tap Save or generate the report when connected.

Add the details that change your decision: access, wind, fresh sign, terrain, and a backup move.

03 / Scout

Turn sign into something you can reuse.

  1. Tap Scout Hunt.
  2. Name the scout and choose the species.
  3. Pin sign, water, food, bedding, stands, or access points.
  4. Draw a trail when your route matters.
  5. Tap Generate Report when finished.

Before using an old scout, compare it with today's weather, permission, rules, and what you see now.

Build a memory of the places you hunt.

My Woods

Save a place, attach hunts and scouts, and return to its map and advice.

Food Plots

Save each plot, its location, notes, and observations. More useful notes make a better record.

Field Notes

From Tools, save quick notes with photos, voice, map pins, and sync.

05 / Field map

The map, explained from first tap to final track.

Open the main map from a hunt or scout. Slide the bottom toolbar sideways to see every control. Some controls are Pro tools or appear only when enabled for your account.

Start with the map

  1. Drag to move the map. Pinch to zoom. Rotate with two fingers if you need a different angle.
  2. Tap GPS Snap to center on your location.
  3. Tap NAV ON to keep the map pointed with your heading. If it says NAV SETUP, allow location in phone settings.
  4. The compass shows north. Turn NAV OFF when you want a fixed map.
  5. Tap the control name again to turn most overlays off. Active controls change color or show an On label.
Toolbar tip: the controls continue off-screen. Swipe the toolbar left or right before deciding a button is missing.

Map Style

Tap Map Style to cycle Plain, Standard, Satellite, Topographic, and Conservation. Depending on the connection, you may also see MT Streets, MT Outdoor, and MT Satellite.

Conservation layers

Choose Conservation, then tap CPCAD, Crown LUPA, WMU, Prov Parks, or Cons Reserve to show or hide a boundary layer. Tap the map to identify a displayed feature.

Add a place

Tap Add Marker, tap the map, enter a name, and tap Save. Tap a saved marker to remove it when you no longer need it.

Draw an area

Tap Mark Area, tap the map, adjust the temporary area, name it, and save it. Use Manage Areas to review or remove saved areas.

Draw a trail

Tap Draw Trail, then slide your finger along the access or exit route. Use My Trails to review saved trails.

Measure

Tap Measure, then tap two points. The map shows the distance between them. Tap Measure again to leave measuring mode.

  • Approach Zone: centers the wind sectors around the spot you are looking at. Put the map center over the stand, blind, bedding, or feed source. Green is the safer downwind approach, yellow is crosswind caution, and red is the upwind direction where your scent may reach the target. Light wind makes sectors wider; strong wind makes them narrower. Gusts and terrain can still change the result.
  • Scout: shows a wedge pointing into the wind and highlights terrain edges such as forest, fields, wetlands, and waterways. Use it when scouting upwind so bumped animals are less likely to wind you. It needs wind direction; if there is no wind data, refresh weather first.
  • Field Intel: shows your saved personal evidence on the map. Tap it to turn the evidence on or off. Hold it to filter what appears. If nothing matches, attach the hunt to a My Woods location or change the filters.
  • Scent: Air: tap Scent once from Off. A blue, downwind teardrop starts at your GPS position and shows the likely direction and approximate spread of scent. Wind data is required.
  • Scent: Air + Ground: tap Scent again. This keeps the air plume and adds recent ground scent from your current breadcrumb and any visible saved Tracks. The recent trail fades from fresh to older points. Use it to avoid crossing your own recent access route.
  • Scent manual point: hold Scent, then tap the map where you want the scent origin. Tap Scent again to clear manual mode and turn it off. The display is a planning aid, not a precise concentration model.
  • Stealth Mode: tap to open the sound-and-wind tools. Choose a sound template such as Whisper, Talking, Grunt Call, Cough, Truck Door, Turkey Call, Doe Bleat, or Antler Rattle. The cone estimates where sound carries downwind; the ring estimates the awareness range.
  • Stealth live mic: inside Stealth Mode, turn Use Live Mic On and allow microphone access. The SPL reading is calculated on the device. Use Lock SPL to hold a reading or Reset to measure again. If Live Mic is unavailable, use a template.
  • Stealth conditions: the sound estimate uses current wind, temperature, humidity, and the Heavy Canopy setting. Hold Stealth Mode, then tap the map to choose a manual origin when you are checking a different spot.
  • Locator: tap Locator, name the animal or call, and tap Start Locating. Tap Open Map Lock, hold the reticle on the call, and tap the bearing button. Move at least about 30 yards, repeat from a second spot, and XHUNT drops an estimated pin after two bearings. Use Undo Last to remove a bearing, My Sessions to reopen one, or Finish to end it.
  • Weather Map: opens the detailed weather screen. 3D Map opens the 3D view when it is shown. Both may require Pro access and service.

Tracks are two different things

  • Current Track: shows or hides the live breadcrumb.
  • Create Track: opens the track builder. Drag the Start and End handles to choose the part you want, then tap Save Selection and name it.
  • My Tracks: shows saved tracks. Select a track to show or hide it, rename it, or delete it.
  • XHUNT may keep a private breadcrumb for up to 12 hours while the app is open. Nothing is saved to your account until you choose a range and save it.
Use layers as questions: Where will my scent go? Where will noise carry? Can I enter and leave safely? Turn off layers you are not using so the map stays readable in the dark.

06 / Weather

Check the approach, not just the forecast.

  • Use Weather Timeline for the full forecast and hourly change.
  • Use Wildlife Outlook for the week ahead.
  • Open Weather Map to switch Outdoor, Streets, or Satellite.
  • Switch layers for Wind, Temp, Precipitation, Press, Radar, or None.
  • Tap GPS Snap or double-tap the map to recenter. Tap the map to inspect the active layer at that spot.
  • Use the weather map to compare entry, setup, and exit—not just the property center.
Safety check: official weather, posted boundaries, permission, local rules, and what you observe in the field outrank the app.

07 / Chat

Ask the question that helps with the next move.

General AI Chat

Open AI Chat from the Dashboard. Tap a suggestion, type a question, or tap the microphone and speak. Tap Send. Earlier chats load when available.

Hunt, Scout, and Plot chat

Open the report and tap its assistant. This chat knows that hunt, scout, or food plot, including its notes, place, date, species, weather, and earlier discussion.

Useful questions

Ask about access routes, stand placement, timing, wind plans, sign, cameras, planting, maintenance, gear, contingencies, or the next step.

Voice

Allow microphone access. Tap the mic, speak, and stop when finished. XHUNT can read the answer aloud after a voice question. Tap the mic again to stop listening.

Use judgment: AI helps organize choices. Confirm rules, permission, weather, safety, and what you actually see before acting.

08 / Reports and help

Read the report. Then ask a better question.

  1. Open a hunt, scout, or food-plot card.
  2. Read the summary and the recommended next move.
  3. Tap Regenerate after conditions or notes change.
  4. Use the report's assistant for that specific place and plan.
  5. Tap Export PDF to save or share the report.

AI can organize options and point out questions. It cannot see today's ground, replace regulations, or guarantee an outcome.

09 / Tools

Use a fast tool when you do not need a full report.

Ballistics Calculator

Enter the load and distance. Review drop, drift, and energy guidance, then export it.

Turkey Predictor

Choose the date and location. Check dawn or dusk conditions and the shareable report.

Field Notes

Capture the clue now. Add the detail to a hunt later.

10 / Before you lose service

Prepare before the truck leaves.

  • Open the reports, maps, and notes you may need.
  • Check the latest weather and export important reports.
  • Saved hunts, scouts, notes, and previously opened reports may remain available offline.
  • New AI questions, fresh weather, report generation, and live map updates need service.
When a screen cannot load: retry when connected and use official sources and field judgment. Do not treat a missing response as advice.
